The Land River BAR race led by Ainslie delighted the home crowd with their win at Portsmouth in the first phase of America’s Cup World Series. The team was able to achieve two first positions and a fifth position on the leader board as the first day of racing was completed. This was part of the World Series of America’s Cup which was held in Portsmouth and sponsored by Louis Vuitton.
The breeze was light on the race day that allowed foiling to be done with the slow pace seen on countless Croatian bareboat charters! The slow races allowed the drama to be experienced well with the crowds on shore. There were several changes in position as well as some minor collisions as well. With some protests and drama the race was an entertaining one for sure.
The Land Rover BAR team was pushed back by the French team when the first leg was being covered. That made the race difficult for the Land Rover team to win. However, they exploited the strong breeze that was blowing on the right hand side on the race course as well as clear air later in the day to build a decisive lead in the race. Ben was able to captain the team well and the crowds loved the action that was displayed in front of them.
